The dancing cranes at Lake Hornborga is a wonderful experience where thousands of cranes stay each spring to rest and to dance for a partner. For a few weeks in the end of March and beginning of April, thousands of cranes gather in the south part of Lake Hornborga. The area is called Dancing cranes and is situated along road 184 between Skara and Falköping.

An experience beyond average
The crane is the landscape bird of Västra Götaland. It weighs between 4-7 kilos and has a wingspan of 2 meters. Every spring, thousands of cranes pass Lake Hornborga. They gather on the south tip of the lake, where the County Administrative Board spread grains to the birds to avoid damage from cranes on the nearby fields.
The first cranes are usually spotted already in February, but it takes a while before a great number can be seen. For a few weeks in the end of March and beginning of April, the number of cranes passes 30 000.
By the Dancing cranes in the south part of the lake there are many viewpoints and an Information centre. Here, visitors can easily see the spectacular drama when thousands of cranes dance and trumpet to welcome spring.

Dawn walk March 30st and April 14th
Book an exclusive nature experience at the Dancing cranes, Lake Hornborga, on selected dates.
You will be picked up at Mösseberg’s kurort early in the morning and travel by bus along with a local guide. You will arrive at Dancing cranes, Lake Hornborga in time for sunrise and the cranes’ very loud “song”. The guide talks about the life of the crane, and we get to enjoy the spectacle. On the way back, the guide tells you about the unique plateau mountain landscape and the thrilling history of the area.
